    Mecos

    OGROVE-01

We want to start a conversation about the interaction between people and places.
A self-exploratory journey. To observe ourselves through other people's stories.

In a remote corner of the Arousa estuary we find O Grove.
Surrounded by the sea on all four sides, its connection to the mainland is minimal.
It has secret places. Modest yet charismatic.

The "mecos" have a reputation for being united and rooted people.
The kind who may leave but will always come back.
The kind who are not there yet they are. People with a sense of territory.

    Taberna Meloxeira
    Porto de Meloxo

It was a tavern for sailors 50 years back.
Now, Álvaro mixes his parents' tradition with his own imagination.

    Why Galicia?
Álvaro: I spent some time in Andorra, London, Barcelona ... but I feel a strong sense of belonging with Galicia, and this land really offers everything we need.

Which of the accessories would you like to keep?
Paula: I would definitely keep the linen scarves. They can be used in so many ways, from pareo to blanket for the beach.

    Tell us about the beginnings
Paula: We started with a simple way of cooking. Now, we are at a stage of maturity where we give more value to our local products, the recipes of our mothers and grandmothers, the fish and seafood of our estuary... Our culinary culture is incredibly rich and we want to convey that.

What is your team for you?
Álvaro: My second family. We work hard but we also have a good time. What matters in the end is to be at ease with yourself and surrounded by people who are looking for the same as you.

Which colour have you been more comfortable wearing?
Álvaro: White gives me a sense of calm, of tranquillity.

What does it mean for you to be part of A Meloxeira's team?
Adriana: I have been in contact with the industry since I was a child. The experience here has helped me to confirm that this world is my second passion; only after the sea. Being at home makes everything better.

How is the relationship between you guys?
Sandra: We have had hard times but it's always worth it because we like what we do.

What do you like most about your job?
Lara: The opportunity to try and taste the dishes we offer.

Diego: I get the chance to meet very interesting people and every day is different from the last.

You told us you don’t normally wear swimsuits...
Lara: I actually don’t but this one feels great on the skin and covers your belly when getting into the freezing Atlantic water which is appreciated.

If you were to keep one single piece of clothing, what would it be?
Diego: I found the green knit sweater very nice and comfortable.

    El Náutico
    San Vicente do Mar

    A musical oasis.
    Chilled atmosphere at the beach.
Here, the artists go to vacation. And while they are there, they also give a concert.

Tell us about your relationship with your work
María: In addition to helping Miguel in the Náutico, I am a diving instructor. My job is what I like the most in the world. Being underwater.

Ubaldo: It's being at home. San Vicente allows me to disconnect.

    Male shirts, yes or no?
Marcela: Yes, of course! To be honest I hadn't even thought about it before... They are like the ultimate swimsuit cover-up because you can wear them open and still feel fresh and cool!

What is Galicia for you guys?
Marcela: I am Argentine, but this place is my home.

Miguel: The best place in the world to live.
